Supreme Court
After our class lecture and video I learned that the supreme court justices only reviews all the petitions once a week. Also the justices have small groups to help them with reviews and only end up approving a few hundred each year. Personally I believe the Court is the last line of defense. By this I mean its the last step of a court case before its 100% set in stone. Also the court functions as the interpreter of the Constitution.
The most surprising thing I learned was how hard preforming a case to 9 people at once. I always sort of assumed all 9 of them had a list of things they wanted to say or question you about. But this is not the case. You are trying to change the minds of 9 people with 9 individual thoughts or questions to be asked and answered. you are having multiple physical conversations about one topic while trying to prepare your mind and think ahead and ready yourself with the answers or statements for the other 8 people to their individual questions! thats so wild and never set in until watching this video and that was surprising to me, I couldn’t even imagine. The most important take away is the court chooses what the cases are they want to take. So based on the current events of society will cause and effect the outcomes of all the causes and affect the cases even choose to begin with.
Something else that I found interesting and something that I'm honestly not too fond of, is her one of the justices said he went into the cases with a verdict in mind. He said that sometimes the people could change his mind but very rarely. I find that odd because, obviously you should have a opinion but going into a case knowing you have basically already lost because the judge wont change his mind is sort of odd to me. They are supposed to make a decision yes based on the information presented but also based on the testimony of the defendants. It seems as though they already have it planned out and going to the supreme court is a waste of time if more than 4 of the judges have this same strategy.
